Where History Inspires the Future
About Wave Street Live
Wave Street Live was born from a deep respect for the past and a bold vision for what’s possible. At the heart of our story is the historic cottage above Wave Street Studios — once the birthplace of Quock Mui, the first Chinese American woman born in Monterey. Known as “Spanish Mary,” she was a cultural bridge in a time of exclusion, speaking five languages and quietly challenging the boundaries placed on her.

Her story is one of resilience and reinvention — a true phoenix rising, overcoming discrimination to leave a legacy of strength, presence, and connection.

That same energy is the soul of Wave Street Live. Every performance, class, and conversation we host is a tribute to transformation — a space where artists rise, communities gather, and creative voices are honored and heard.

A Living, Breathing Space for Creativity
Hidden just off Cannery Row, Wave Street Studios is a historic venue rooted in Monterey’s cultural legacy and built to inspire what comes next. Architecturally distinct and sustainably designed, the space blends world-class acoustics and environmental consciousness to create an experience that’s both elevated and grounded. Founded and operated by the Smith family, it remains deeply community-driven — a space where connection thrives across generations, disciplines, and creative forms.
More Than a Venue
While Wave Street Live is known for its concerts and online media platform, the space is also available for private rentals — from intimate gatherings and creative productions to full-scale events.
Whether you're planning a workshop, filming a project, or celebrating a milestone, our venue offers a warm, professional setting with studio-quality amenities.

Just passing through? Visit the Studio Café, a tucked-away spot for coffee, conversation, and local flavor. It's the heart of our space — a place to slow down, connect, and soak in the energy of Cannery Row.
